Archimede Film presents a new short film by Matteo Garrone at the Milan Furniture Fair 2016 set in a post-apocalyptic world featuring children. “I immediately found the project, Before Design: Classic, interesting and I welcomed the challenge of portraying furniture in a way that was not traditional within a cinematographic setting.”
“I immediately found the project, Before Design: Classic interesting and I welcomed the challenge of portraying furniture in a way that was not traditional within a cinematographic setting. I liked the initial idea that saw classic beauty – in its widest sense – travel through different eras while maintaining its modern, contemporary characteristics and building a bridge to the future. I imagined a post-atomic scenario; the wreckage of the world from which the children (who embody purity and the ability to see beauty) salvage “timeless” objects that are unaffected over the years from the ruins. Moving against the background of an enchanted place where there is a strong sense of history, the young “guardians of taste” arrange, clean and preserve these pieces so that beauty is passed on to future generations. A piece of furniture becomes the main character, resisting the passage of time and embodying taste that never goes out of style.”
