Dogman

In a suburb suspended between a big city and the hinterland, where the law of the jungle rules, Marcello is a humble, mild-mannered man that spends his days between working in his small grooming salon for dogs, his love for his daughter, Alida, and an unsettling relationship under the servitude of Simoncino, a former boxer who terrorizes the entire neighbourhood. After the umpteenth act of abuse, Marcello is determined to reclaim his dignity with an unexpected plan for revenge.

Dogman is a film loosely based on a true crime story that happened thirty years ago and is not a recreation of the facts as they were reported.
I began working on the screenplay twelve years ago. Throughout the years, I went back to it many times trying to adapt it to the changes I wanted to make. Finally, a year ago, an encounter with the leading character in the film, Marcello Fonte, and the compassion he transmitted, clarified how I would deal with such a dark and violent subject and the character that I wanted to portray: a man who, in an attempt to redeem himself from a lifetime of humiliation, deceives himself in thinking he has freed not only himself, but the entire neighbourhood and perhaps the entire world. But the truth is that everything remains the same and indifferent.
